Day 24/366 – CNY 2012

Looking at my title, it’s clear that I’m not the person who writes daily.

Anyhow, 2012 Chinese Lunar New Year so far is rather remarkable.

I played mahjong once per day, and it’s only day 2 of the festival.

& I’ve learnt from this game – if you choose to be happy about winning, you’re gonna win more.

Like duh, who doesn’t feel happy about winning?

The thing is, it’s a struggle to smile especially when you’re losing.

Just like every day life, if you choose to look at things positively, things will look up to you.

Same goes to the saying – if you choose to think of what you lack of, you’re never gonna be happy.

I had a great time bonding with my family, relatives over the game of mahjong.

Parents get extra tired during this time of the year over all the preparation and house visiting.

Mom was saying the other day, “Why bother to have steamboat when none of us could eat more than half of what we bought?”

True that but it’s only during CNY, my family come together. That’s the reason why I insist on having reunion dinner. It’s called reunion for a reason.

Nevertheless, for the remaining 13 days of CNY, may all of us HUAT ah~

Day 15/366 – baking task!

Aunt came over in the early noon to teach me how to make pineapple tarts. Technically, she taught me how to mold them and bake them. I don’t know how much of butter, egg, flour, sugar, salt, milk and other ingredients she added in. But I’m pretty sure she added too much butter in the dough because the batter turns out super powdery and milky. I like.

I love the momentum when you mold the dough into a ball, able to hear your own breathing, focusing entirely on the dough in your oily hands. The satisfaction when first batch perfectly baked was amazing.

But, we didn’t succeed on our first try.

We had to FAIL 3 times using our oven before we gave up and aunt went to GET A NEW OVEN just to bake all the dough she prepared and it was then a SUCCESS. I almost wanna thrash my microwave-or-was-it-oven on the floor because it has proven useless to bake cookies.

Nevertheless, awesome experience baking cookies using 2 ovens.

Day 13/366 – Sunshine in corridor

I enjoyed sitting on the concrete floor outside the classroom early in the morning, not because I’m a loner. Okay, maybe I am.

The empty corridor with the sun ray shining right at the other end.

That soothing feel, with the birds chirping in the air.

But I can guarantee you, it’s not as fun as it look when it’s at night.

The night has something that makes you fear, which I can never explain why and how.

Day 9/366 – Thai food!

The thing about traveling, you can never forget the lovely cuisine you tasted in the country & you crave for more.

Which is unhealthy in the long run – you’re never gonna be able to find that exact taste but you’re constantly craving.

I cannot take too spicy food but spicy-sour are the best combination to open your appetite.

Yum!

Day 8/366 – Wholesale~

The weather wasn’t on our side today but parents wanted to get something and we head down to some wholesale shop for seafood.

It’s so festive everywhere now because CNY is approaching.

Shopping with aunties will make your blood boil. Let’s all age civilise-ly alright?

Traveled down to Queenstown & had oyster omelette and bumped into an ex-school mate :)

Window shopped around in ikea and the candles, god, they are to die for… the fragrance made browsing furniture sooo enjoyable.

If you happen to drop by, do go and SMELL the creamy white candles, they smell HEAVENLY SWEET!
